The difficult challenge faced by many surgeons to introduce the novel LINX procedure for the management of reflux disease was discussed at a specialist meeting of the UK Reflux Interest Group, Danesfield House, Marlow on the 7th of March, 2014.
The meeting was sponsored by Torax Medical, developers of the LINX reflux management system who are keen to see the UK emulate the success of Italy, Germany and now the United States into incorporating LINX into standard practice
Currently, few UK hospitals can offer LINX for NHS patients.
Saj Wajed from Exeter, who was the first surgeon in the UK to successfully establish LINX through the NHS presented a detailed lecture on his experience, and how this has now lead development of a specialist regional reflux service for the South West of England, (South West Reflux). Without NHS involvement, the scope for this is limited, and hence he emphasised that it was important for all Reflux Surgeons to offer a comprehensive service
