HOW IS FUNCTIONAL BOWEL DISORDER DIAGNOSED?
Firstly, it is very important to rule out other conditions of the gut including cancers and inflammatory diseases. Investigations such as GI endoscopy (upper or lower) and imaging (ultrasound, CT, MRI) are necessary depending on the nature of the presentation.
If these are clear, then a second level of more complex investigations can take place. These can look specifically at the function of the gut and see how it is working and include physiology, impedance, acid exposure, specific tests for bacterial overgrowth, gut transit and many others.
Our patients say . . .
I cannot thank you enough for your great care through my surgery. Great to be able to eat normally.
Thank you very much for operating on my father. Your skills have made a huge impact on Dad and he is visibly much better with his rosy cheeks returning to his face. He is now able to enjoy his farmhouse dinners, much to all our pleasure.
You were so very kind and patient listening to my doubts, and although I know that I had to make the decision myself, you said just enough to enable me to make the right one.
I appreciated the kindly and sensitive way you receive me and conducted the consultation.
Thank you so much for giving me back the enjoyment of eating and drinking everything again. For so long my acid reflux has dominated my life, making it rather miserable at times but since my operation I am one hundred per cent better and can’t believe the difference it has made, it’s just wonderful.
My husband and I would like to thank you for all you effort curing my hernia problem … my breathing is much improved. I look forward to a much better quality of life.
My surgery has been more successful than I ever hoped for. From the time I woke up in the theatre recovery are to find I was able to take deep breath. I had not realised that I did not have the freedom to breathe deeply before the surgery. I simply thought that I was unfit as I was unable to exercise comfortably swimming, walking or Pilates. I feel so well and my quality of life has improved beyond any hopes.
